Sense and Avoid in UAS: Research and Applications
There is growing interest in the potential of UAV (Unmanned Aerial Vehicle) and MAV (Micro Air Vehicle) technology and its wide applications including defense missions, reconnaissance and surveillance, border patrol, disaster zone assessment and atmospheric research. High investment level of the armed forces is driving global research and development and increasing the quality of life in the autonomous platforms to replace the car’s remote-controlled in general use.
UAV / UAS are to avoid a number of new challenges, autonomy and especially collisions, detect and prevent, or feel, and to prevent, as the most challenging, with regulations both and technical problems.
Sense and Avoid in UAS: Research and Applications refers to the problem of detect, sense and avoid UAS (Unmanned Aircraft Systems) in depth and combines theoretical and the application results by leading academics and researchers from industry and academia
The main features :.
- presents a holistic view of the meaning and avoid problems in the wider application of autonomous systems
- contains information about human factors, regulatory and navigation, control, aerodynamics and physics aspects of the sense and avoid issue in UAS
- Provides professional, scientific and reliable content that is easy to understand, and
- Including contributions from leading engineers and researchers in the field
Sense and Avoid in UAS: Research and Applications is an invaluable source of original and specialized information. It acts as a reference for practicing engineers and advanced theoretical research and is also a useful resource for younger engineers and postgraduate students. With its reliable sources and thorough review process, Sense and Avoid in UAS: Research and Applications provides a reliable source of information in an area that is growing rapidly, but hardly satisfied.

A bit on the basic side, but great for those starting to look SAA every application and even doing better if you research and sometimes get lost in the new surveillance technologies and data link capabilities because it makes you focus on the fundamentals. Would love more pathfinding algorithm details, but otherwise great read. . great addition to Cooperative path Planning of Unmanned Aerial Vehicles by Tsourdos, White and Shanmugavel which extend pathfinding algorithms and multiple intruders in the surveillance range of ownship.

detailed discussion of the subject. Book is a good primer on sense and avoid. It focuses on concepts, requirements, current and expected opportunities and developments in the field. After purchasing the physical book, I decided to also purchase the Kindle version so I can have as a ready reference.
