Unmanned Aircraft Systems (UAS): US Air Force role in future Air Warfare – manned or unmanned? (UAVs, aircraft, remote-controlled)

In today’s volatile and complex environment, the military branch of the national power has been called up to fight campaigns in both Iraq and Afghanistan. For more than eight years USAF constantly deployed to both theaters, flying thousands of sorties every year usually manned missions, but unmanned. Unmanned flights are primarily intended for Intelligence, Surveillance and Reconnaissance (ISR) missions, but are increasingly used the unmanned platforms for attack missions. This increased reliance on Unmanned Aerial Systems (UAS) to more traditional roles of USAF air power supplement has several implications. UAS eliminate the human side of being in the air. They do not realize immediate situational; they do not put “eyes-on” the purpose and the friendly forces. While UASs to serve an important role, with the man in the cockpit will lead to strategic mistakes and give the enemy a chance to succeed. Fielding the right numbers of manned and unmanned aircraft, the USAF will enable to carry out its mission in the future conflicts effectively. The uncertainty of future environment and our continued use of USAF air power will ingenuity, foresight, and appropriate technology development needed. If the enemy continues to adapt, so we have.
