Design

First, the SG900 foldable drone has a clear and stylish black look. The logo and the power button is placed on the top. Some of you may have noticed that it certainly looks like a little cheaper version of the Mavic pro. This isn’t a bad thing and in fact, because it has a really cool and successful design. The SG900 foldable drone is a good start to learn all the basics in piloting a drone, as well as mastering your aerial photography capabilities. This aircraft comes with a massive design that provides natural protection against minor damage. Also as you could read in the title the drone is foldable so the transportation will be as easy as possible. Under the arms you’ll find green LED’s on the front and red LED’s on the back. These will help you identify the front and the back, but they also help you a lot at night time.

But that is not all. This compact and durable drone has a modularized battery that absorbs overcharge and discharge protection that helps the battery last longer. In addition to that, the battery is designed to be modular so that the power is delivered more regular and more efficiently for even better performance.

Camera

The front camera is a 1080p one which is FPV capable. You’ll also find a camera on the bottom has the function of an optical flow sensor. This second camera is of lower quality, only 720, but I think it’s even less than that, so I won’t recommend recording with it. But in some cases, it might help you to see what’s under the drone. Some of the users faced some problems with the response of the RC when they wanted to take a photo, but the app responded well every time. So to be sure your footage won’t get always take your photos and videos with the buttons on the app. The photos taken with the drone are really satisfying. Surprisingly the photos taken with the drone don’t have a fisheye effect which is a big plus from me, I really don’t like those fake and unrealistic fisheye photos. Besides this, the photos are clear and well contrasted. As much as a 1080p camera can make good photos.

Remote control

The RC looks nice and simple but the most noticeable thing about it is the fact that it doesn’t need any batteries like other RC-s. You can just simply charge it without buying new batteries every time you have to change them. The controller is small but big enough to fit nicely in your hands and has an ergonomic and pleasant touch. When you look at the Transmitter you will see the power button right in the middle of the device. On top of that, there are some LED indicators. You also have buttons for photo, video, landing and speed modes.  The antenna, as well as the phone holder, matches the style of the drones, so it’s foldable as well. However, the antennas are fake so they are good only to stand the Remote Control when you place it on a flat surface. You also have some buttons on the back as well, those are the Headless Mode and One-key take-off buttons. The connection between the controller isn’t the best. So It is possible that you might experience some interference and the drone will move without your will. Also, some users have lost the joystick on the very first flight. So the RC wasn’t made with the most attention.

Flight experience

The most important factor in your flight experience is flight time. With this 2200 mAh battery, the drone is able to fly for 22 minutes. This is quite impressive, and if you buy even more batteries this number will increase of course. The GPS functionalities, optical flow sensor, and the powerful motor will ensure you a steady flight and a great altitude hold. Even in some weak wind.

The drone has different speeds, so if you are a beginner you can start at a lower speed, and when you have mastered the control of the drone and wish for more adrenaline you can switch to a higher speed.

Using the app provided with the drone can increase your joy while using the drone. First of all, the app is configurable, you can change the joysticks so the remote will be personalized. Besides that, you can’t access much intelligent flight options because it doesn’t have much. But it has a really cool one. It can take photos and videos by reading your hand gestures. Like you show a “V” with your hand it will start recording. Therefore you don’t have to appear in the videos with a transmitter in your hand if you don’t want to.

Conclusion

The SG900 Quadcopter looks pretty cool as you can see in this review and has a practical and ergonomic build with his foldable style. And don’t forget that it doesn’t cost much at all and has a pretty good camera. But for me, the pro list stops here.  The manufacturers didn’t pay a lot of attention when they built the RC and it has its cost. The control sometimes is laggy and the drone can make an unwanted movement as well. Which is kinda bad if you want to take make quality videos. Some parts can even fall all really easily. But if you own more drones then I recommend buying a universal transmitter. And these problems will be gone. But this would be your first drone then I suggest to keep looking and find another one.
