Autel Evo 2 Pro vs DJI Mavic Air 2

If you are not (yet!) a professional, but your passion for aerial photography and film making is steady but surely takes you there, so should your equipment. The Autel Evo 2 Pro vs DJI Mavic Air 2 article might be helpful to you. Because we know that it can be quite difficult to decide which drone is the best fit for you. Especially with all the different options on the market. We are happy to leave the decision to you, so you can decide for yourself which option best fits your needs.

Dimensions

Overall, the Autel Evo 2 Pro is bigger than the DJI Mavic Air 2. They both fold their arms in and become ready to pack. The Autel has a volume of 3335 cm³, while the DJI is 1466 cm³. So, the first conclusion we can draw is that the Autel is double the size of the DJI. Of course, even the DJI can seem too big for some people, so this aspect really depends on your preferences.

Their weight goes by the same pattern. The Autel being 1kg and the DJI cutting that in half, at 570 grams. Even with the lightweight of the DJI, you might still want to look into your local legislation concerning drones. Whether you use it for commercial or personal reasons. Don’t be intimidated by the weight of the Autel. The main advantage here is that you won’t be fearful to use it during windier weather.

Performance

When we talk about performances, the differences aren’t so big, but those slight variations are where the final choice sits. The Autel has a fair amount of 40 minutes of flight time, while the DJI tops at about 34 minutes. Also, considering this, the charge time is quite unexpected. Even though they both have the same 11.55v 7100 mah lithium polymer battery, the Autel charges faster, in 80 minutes than the DJI, in 100 minutes.

Something you wouldn’t necessarily expect is the fact that even though the Autel is notably heavier than its opponent, it is also faster, being able to reach a top speed of 72 km/h. Of course, the DJI doesn’t sit far behind, with a proud number of 68 km/h. The ascent speed doesn’t seem to be very different between the two, Autel being at 5m/s and DJI 4m/s. The descend variates the same: Autel 3m/s and DJI 4m/s. The range is again similar enough, with the Autel reaching 9km and the DJI 10 km.

If the GPS signal is weak in your area, it is not something that needs to concern you if you will become the proud owner of any of these drones. They both have a dual GPS system and many sensors located on the bottom that help to stabilise the flight, through a vision positioning system.

Cameras

Let’s start with the similarities: both offer 120 Mbps, which is pretty much the best on the market and, interesting enough, they both use the same image sensors: the Sony IMX 586. They can both deliver images of 48 MP in JPEG format, or smaller resolution in other formats, like RAW or DNG. The Autel stands out with its NIGHT BEAT feature, which allows hyperlapse photography in 6K, even at night. The DJI doesn’t fall quite behind either, as it also has a special feature, called SmartPhoto. This feature combines different photography modes. Resulting in high-quality professional content, with a simple click of a button away.

There are some differences in the video department: first of all, the field of view. In this case, the DJI offers a higher standard. It has the for at 84 degrees, compared to the Autel, at 79 degrees. In translation, the DJI will see more than the Autel when they are flying at the same point. Even though they are both high video resolution drones, the Autel takes the winning spot, with the 8K technology. The DJI 4K seems unbelievably small compared to it. Even so, if want to take slow-motion shots, the DJI is better at it, at 240fps at 1080p. Also, there are a few more video formats compared to the Autel: D-Cinelinke flat profile and HDR. The good news is, they both have a 3-axis gimbal that effortlessly smooths out the footage.

Intelligent features

Maybe the most fun feature can be found in the DJI: the Quickshots: Dronie, Circle, Helix, Rocket, Boomerang, and Asteroid.. Not only this, but it also includes the latest ActiveTrack 3.0, which is a better-improved version of the ActiveTrack 2.0. Even so, the Autel also has some exciting ones, like the Object Track, Orbit, or Gesture Control.

Controllers

The Autel has a small controller, with a 3.3-inch OLED screen that replaces your smartphone. You can also use the Autel Explorer App when it comes to viewing live video feed. With the help of the screen, you can also constantly keep an eye on telemetry data about the drone. Even so, others still prefer using the drone with the app on the smartphone, as it offers more features.

The DJI has a bigger controller, but still comfortable and easy to use. It also has a smartphone clamp on the top, together with the power button. The ones for capturing images and videos and the one for controlling the gimbal. The return to home one is located in the middle. Between the two you can find the switch for the three different flight modes.

Software issues

Unfortunately, Autel is still present in this category. The bugs remained the same compared to the previous models: tilt and intelligent features issues, which can’t seem to get rid of their old-time bugs. Still, we believe that these small issues will be fixed, sooner or later, making the whole experience flawless. We hope that the Autel Evo 2 Pro vs DJI Mavic Air 2 article was helpful to you.
