Syma X5sC-1 Quadcopter Review

Syma is one of the largest manufacturers of toy drones, and their drones are extremely popular with both beginners and experienced drone enthusiasts. While looking for which toy drones to buy, you are often overwhelmed by many choices. If you are new to the world of drones, you should always choose those that are friendly to beginners. This review will explore the Syma X5sC-1 Quadcopter model. Enjoy!

Syma X5sC-1 Quadcopter model is an absolute obvious upgrade to its predecessor, the X5C-1. This drone model actually has two variants, one with an HD camera for FPV (first-person view) and one without. The HD camera version can stream live video to the controller. This is the drone under examination.

It comes with a redesigned body, a headless mode, slightly longer legs and a larger engine. For those who are starting their journey in piloting a drone, the headless mode simply means that you will be able to control the drone much better. Drones without this feature are usually for more experienced drone pilots.

Syma X5SC-1 Overviews

Syma did its best to try to make the X5sC-1 a better choice compared to the previous X5C-1. The various changes made to the body are proof of this. The latest quad features clearly stand out from its predecessor.

One of these features includes closed engines and also pinion gears. This new small feature prevents impurities from entering its gear and rotor shaft. This is a great improvement, as they will help reduce the failures of these components.

The new camera mount allows the user to slide it safely outwards and inwards. You do not need screws to disassemble or install the camera. In the predecessor model, the camera was attached to the battery door by two small screws, it was almost impossible to disassemble unless you had the right equipment.

In terms of the battery cover, the cover of this latest model is much more robust, better designed, rear-facing and much easier to use. The drone’s improved power switch, located under the body, is another nice touch to this model.

Another big improvement is the landing legs, which are much longer. This will protect the drone’s camera against landing near jagged surfaces, with much better protection. They are invaluable if you always land on rough surfaces or your landing skills need to be improved, the longer landing gear will make it easier. Other innovative details such as redesigned graphics and vents are also features of the improved body.

Flight functions

This Syma model has much more flight power than its predecessor. This is due to the 8 mm engines compared to the 7 mm ones worn by the predecessor. It is louder and more brutal, losing some of the consistency for which the X5C-1 is known.

Many users believe that drones that have problems flying in windy conditions are a problem of a bug in the drone’s flight controller software. This we think was a problem in the first batch of Syma X5sC, however, it seems to have been fixed.

Although this is a toy drone, you should be careful not to fly it too aggressively at first if you are new to flying drones. That being said, it can take on occasional collisions and accidents and it becomes easier to fly after a while.

Remote

The remote control of the Syma X5sC-1 Quadcopter model is like its predecessor and yes, it still has that fake antenna we don’t like and honestly, we don’t think that the remote control is a piece of well-designed equipment. Having that said it does what it says on the box, the transmitter has a range of about 50 meters and uses 4 AA batteries that are not included, so make sure you either buy some or have something in store around if you buy a drone.

If you browse the internet, you can find hacks that will extend this range to about 100 meters. There is an LCD screen that displays information such as battery level and throttle level. It also has buttons that do absolutely nothing (probably just sitting there to make it look more advanced). It is also important to know that the X5SC-1 transmitter cannot be used with the older version of the drone, although the older transmitter can be used on the newer model.

Camera

The camera that comes along with the X5sC-1 model is the same 2MP / HD 720P that comes with its predecessor. However, it is not something revolutionary, being a quadcopter that you can buy for less than 100 USD, it is still a good deal. Thus, if you are looking to purchase one for the best prices we’ve found out there we recommend you go to amazon.com

Take decent photos and videos and you can store all these images and videos on the 4GB memory card that comes with the drone. Although this version of the X5sC drone does not have fpv, Syma X5sW does, so if you really want fpv capability, the X5sW is the way to go.

Customer Questions and Answers

  • Question: Does it have a WIFI function?
  • Answer: Sorry, this model does not support WIFI but the X5SW or X5HW models do have.
  • Question: What is the flight time?
  • Answer: About 5 minutes
  • Question: Does this model have LED lights?
  • Answer: Each rotor arm has LED lights. Two reds for the front and two green for the back.
  • Question: Does it have a return function?
  • Answer: Sorry, this model does not support the return function.
  • Question: Does it include the phone clip and the screwdriver?
  • Answer: No, it does not include the phone clip, but it does include the screwdriver.
  • Question: Does this include a battery charger and extra batteries?
  • Answer: Only 1 charger and 1 battery are included.

Conclusion

The X5SC-1 is a very stable drone quadcopter that can be a lot of fun to fly just like its predecessor, the X5C-1. The most obvious weakness it has is the inability to fly in light winds. Although this version has the fpv feature, you cannot connect a smartphone or tablet to get real-time fpv capability but this is a bug that they fixed with X5sW. In our opinion, drones that have full fpv capability are much more enjoyable. Although it’s a bit more expensive, we would go for the X5sW if you really want to live fpv capability. Regardless of the weaknesses mentioned, this is still a great drone for beginners and with which you can have a lot of fun.
