Syma X400 Quadcopter Review

An inexpensive drone, so small that it easily fits in your hand and also has features similar to the bigger, professional ones. If it were to simply describe the Syma X400 Quadcopter in a few, simple words, these would be it. A very good option for those who always wondered how it would be to fly a drone, but never had the courage or funds to do so.

Design

One thing to be mentioned about this drone is that even though it is small in size, Syma definitely did not let aside any visual details, as the drone is overall very good looking. The combination between black and red plus the compact build give it a high-end feel. The flexible material used gives the drone an almost indestructible feature, as it can withstand a series of hits and crashes. The only thing that might need replacing are the propellers, but that is not something to be worried about, as they are cheap and the process is easy.

The remote controller also fits the design, as it is black with silver details and the logo in red. Even though it may seem too simple at a first glance, with only the power button and two throttles visible, we assure you that they are user-friendly.

Camera

In comparison to other drones, the camera of this one is not something you have not seen before. The quality is not amazing by any means, but it can be a fun feature to use when you are flying the quadcopter around, especially considering the low price. You can experience FPV and observe real time video feed through Syma’s mobile app. In order for this to be possible, the drone has a WiFi chip that lets you pair the phone and the drone together.

Flight performance

The built-in gyroscopes and accelerometers allow the drone to hover pretty stably once you no longer use any of the controls on the remote controller. Even if it drifts from side to side, you can adjust the drim functions.

If you do not know what to expect the first time you will be flying a drone, here is an insight:

First, you need to pair the drone either with the remote controller or the app on the phone. For beginners, we advise them to use the controller at first, until they get used to the experience. Then, in a safe area, you place the drone on the ground and push the take off button. At this time, you will notice that the drone rises at a height of about 1.20 meters and remains in a hover. Then, by using the controls, you can move it up, down, backwards, forwards, or rotate it around its axis. From here on, let the fun begin!

This drone is built for indoor use. You can have a lot of fun flying it through doorways, over a balcony, or even hover it over your pet! We bet their reaction would be hilarious. Even so, you can try and take this drone outside too, but you need to be mindful of the environment, because even though the drone is very sturdy, it does not handle itself too good even in the slightest wind. This happens because of how lightweight it is. Other than that, you should not have any issues.

Flight features

Syma X400 Quadcopter also has a number of convenience features included, that make the learning process easier for many beginners. They include auto take-off and landing, which means that you can command your drone to do these things at only the push of a button, headless mode, which makes the drone respond to your exact commands, no matter its orientation. Also, you can find the one key start and stop feature, that allows you to power up and shit down the drone with just one button. Did we mention the 3D flip capability? Basically, this drone has it all!

I would like to know…

What type of batteries does the remote need?

It needs four AA batteries, which are not included in the package.

Is this drone appropriate for children?

Yes, but with supervision. The blades are very sharp and, therefore, they can get hurt if they get hit by them.

Is the app compatible with both Android and iOS?

Yes, it requires a 8.0 iOS or later, or a 5.0 Android or later.

The package of the Syma X400 includes:

  • The drone itself
  • The remote controller
  • 1 drone battery
  • USB charging cable
  • 4 spare propellers
  • Screwdriver
  • User manual

Conclusion

As you can tell by now, Syma X400 Quadcopter is great for either beginners or children. Also, considering its size, it can make for a great stocking stuffer for Christmas! Either way, we guarantee you will have a lot of fun with it, considering how resistant it is and the many flying functions it has. Even though the camera is not a huge feature, you can still use it to gather up some memories of your happiest moments. This have-it-all drone can be found on Amazon for a great price, that promises to not break your bank. We look forward to hearing from your experience and hope that someday you will level-up to even more amazing drones!
