It’s built from a strong ABS plastic on the exterior that protects its delicate interior parts. The drone can survive minor crashes, yet try to fly it carefully.

Snaptain SP500 Quadcopter Package Review

Battery

In the package, you will get two batteries and each of them can give you a flight time of 15 minutes. The batteries are some modular, 7.4V 1000mAh batteries. They are safe to handle and you can remove and insert them easily in the drone. The charging time of a battery is 2.5 hours, which is a bit long. So make sure that your batteries are always charged up well before a flight. When the battery runs low the drone will let you know and it will perform an auto take-off.

Controller

The controller shares the same foldable design, so you can carry it alongside with the drone. It is very ergonomic and easy to use. It has a holder that can also fit an iPad, so your FPV experience will be better. The user interface is quite good and beginner-friendly, every button is clearly laid out and enabled with small icons.  Using this controller is very easy, so even if you’re a beginner you will get used to it in no time. With a 2.4GHz frequency that the controller uses, the distance you get is 220 meters. The remote controller has an internal, build it, rechargeable battery.

Camera

The drone comes with a 1080P HD camera. The camera takes good and sharp photos and videos. It has a wide-angle of view with 110 degrees, so you can capture resonant footage. The camera angle can be adjustable vertically by 40 degrees. So you can set the angle that gives you the best footage. Unfortunately, the drone has only a 1-axis gimbal stabilizer, so you will have to fly steadily in order to have nice footage.

You can get an FPV view on your phone through a 5G WiFi transmission, so make sure your phone is 5G capable. Note that when the drone is flying, you will get the streaming video in only 720P quality.

Flight features

The quality of a drone can be seen about how many intelligent flight features are packed in a drone. Luckily, this drone has a lot:

  • GPS

This isn’t something new here since many drones have GPS nowadays. Basically, this feature helps to drone to have a better orientation. With this enabled the drone will fly more steady and due to the auto-return, it will make it harder to lose it. It has some safety features as well as if it loses signal with the transmitter, it will fly back to his initial starting point.

  • Trajectory Flight

This is a feature that can be accessed only from the app, you just draw a flight path on the map that you would love the drone to follow. And the drone will follow that route, this way you can control the drone hands-free.

  • Follow me

When you start the Follow Me Mode, the drone’s camera will lock onto you and will follow you from a nice distance. It will move as fast as you move. However, the horizontal movement of the drone isn’t so smooth.

  • Orbit Mode

The orbit mode is also another way for you to create amazing footage. Just select an area or object on the app that you would like to record. The drone will lock on that selected area or object and starts to circle around capturing footage from a 360 degree.

  • Gesture control

This is one of the most fun features of the drone. If the drone is in a short distance you can control it with different hand gestures. If you show a V sign, it will start recording. If you show your palm to the camera it will take a photo within a few seconds. Gesture controls are like timers on any camera. It will make it easier to take selfies and big group photos.

  • Altitude Hold

This mode is designated to lock the height that you would like the drone to fly. This way you don’t have to keep your hands all the time on the controls, worrying about an eventual falling.

  • Headless Mode

When the drone is out of your sight, just start the headless mode and the drone will face the controller. So you can bring it back to you easily.

Conclusion

If you are looking for a smart camera drone, that is beginner-friendly and has a lot of features, then you should consider buying the SNAPTAIN SP500 quadcopter from this review. It comes with a built-in 1080P HD camera mounted on a 1-axis gimbal stabilizer for smooth and precise footage recording. It has a decent flight time with 30 minutes and a bit small range with 220 meters. But don’t be disappointed, if you use this distance-wise, you can still get amazing results with the camera.

You will also love this drone because it was crafted with high-quality material. This provides the drone with improved resistance during a crash. All of this makes this drone one of the best drones under $250. Overall, we highly recommended the SNAPTAIN SP500 to all the beginners and advanced flyers at the same time.
