Design and build
This is a good looking drone red strip above the nose is a great touch. For me, it reminds me of the back of a new sports car. The Black color is a great match for that detail. The drone is made of high-quality ABS plastic, which offers good protection in case you manage to crash the drone. However, don’t try out the limit of the drone.
The drone is quite large, but luckily it’s a foldable drone so it’s easier to carry it around. To be more specific it measures 47 by 47 by 7.5 cm/18.5 by 18.5 by 3 inches when unfolded and 7 by 3.3 by 2.9 inches when you fold it. The weight is 490g, which doesn’t seem too heavy, and the motor can handle it easily but you still have to register it with the FAA before you can fly it in the USA.
As for it’s built, the drone has metal-cased 1806 brushless motors. Because it’s a brushless motor the motors won’t heat up that fast. So you could fly even with a second battery without worrying about the overheating. The propellers are standard split blades which makes it possible to fold the drone without removing them. You will also notice the high landing gear which is rubber-coated, the high landing gear is needed so you won’t crush the camera or the body during a landing. The drone is ready to fly, which means that you don’t need to buy any other gadget for the drone. You just have to take out from the box, unfold the arms, calibrate and you’re ready for the fun.
Battery
The drone comes with a 3500mAh 7.4V battery but you can order the drone even with a dual battery pack for more fun. The flight time these batteries can give you is amazing, with a single battery you can fly up to 25 minutes in good conditions. But with great flight time, there is a great charging time as well, which in our case is 300 to 400 minutes. So plan ahead your flights and make sure your batteries are fully charged. These are modular batteries so they have to be charged outside of the drone, this means that if you have 2 batteries you can use one while the other is charging.
Remote Controller
The controller you get with the X46G is a solid and practical device. Besides the buttons, there is a small LCD screen that displays all the important telemetry stats of the quadcopter such as the remaining battery charge, distance, height, etc. The controller is made from grainy plastic and does feel really good in your hands though. The range of the controller is 500 meters. You will find that there are buttons for different actions like taking videos/photos, headless mode, calibration, one key takeoff, and a few others. With a bit of practice, you can learn them really quickly. In order to power up the controller, you’ll need 3xAA batteries (not included in the package). The antennas on the controller are only for design, those are not the real antennas.
Camera
With this drone you get two cameras, the main one is a standard camera on the nose, and a smaller, secondary camera on the belly of the quadcopter. You can switch between the cameras on the app. The nose camera’s angle can be controlled from the transmitter to set the perfect angle for shooting your footage.
The main camera is a 4K capable camera and the second one which is a down-facing camera is 720P, so you better use it only the main camera. It might not be exactly 4K as they tell us, but it’s definitely better than the 2nd camera. The drone has a 6-axis gyro so the pictures and videos will be smooth.
Flight experience
The real value of a drone is shown in his flight features and how better you can fly it. The Honor X46G is a very good and responsive drone with a lot of enjoyable automatic flight functions. So even the beginners, children, and experienced pilots will be able to fly it correctly and to make amazing videos with it. The drone has some intelligent flight features like GPS positioning, One key take-off and landing, Gesture Control, Trajectory Flight, Fail-safe return, Headless mode, Orbit mode, Follow me mode. With these, you will surely be able to make incredible footages. Even if they are automated functions it takes some time to master them. But don’t give up, be positive and exercise as much as you need.
